Some digital cameras use infra-red or IR for range finding so their lenses block IR. These cameras will not be able to take IR photography.

Before you buy an IR camera filter, test you cameras ability
- Aim a remote control with the button pressed directly at your camera, and take a picture. If you can see a light from the remote your camera will capture IR light.
This only means that the camera sensor can "see" a bigger light spectrum than the human eye can, but it will "see" the Infra Red (extreem Red light) like white light.
